Ravens star reveals plans to take Lamar Jackson’s jersey number 8

Isaiah Likely wants to wear No. 8 in Baltimore.

One problem: That’s already worn by a franchise legend, quarterback Lamar Jackson.

The Ravens’ up-and-coming tight end has a solution, though.

Back in 2021, Jackson said he’d change his number if the Ravens win the Super Bowl. If he hoists the Lombardi Trophy, Jackson plans to become No. 1, the first jersey number he ever had.

Likely has heard all about that, and he plans to jump in if the Ravens can get over the hump and win the Super Bowl.

“See the vision,” Likely told NFL host Kay Adams. “If we win, right? When we win, eight’s gone. Boom. Switch to one,” Likely said. “Then I’m going to look at eight and say, ‘Look, I think it’s time to pass it on. Pass up eight.’ I’m going to ask him. I’m like his little brother. It’d be crazy for him to say no. Unless he wants to double retire.”

Jackson actually spoke at the time about wanting to get both Nos. 8 and 1 retired with the Ravens, a Kobe Bryant-level feat.

Maybe he’d make an exception to allow Likely to wear 8 before it goes out of commission.

The biggest variable is not jersey retirements, though. It’s the Super Bowl.

Playoff success is the one thing that has eluded Lamar Jackson to this point of his NFL career.

The Ravens will gladly welcome all sorts of jersey number changes if it meant that first they had stood on top of the NFL mountain.
