The Baltimore Ravens led the NFL in total yards in 2024. Derrick Henry led the way with just under 2,000 yards on the ground.
If Henry were to go down with an injury, the Ravens would need someone they can count on to still produce.
Currently on the Ravens’ depth chart, Justice Hill and Keaton Mitchell back up Henry. Hill has just over 1,000 yards over his five-year career and Mitchell only played in five games in 2024 due to a torn ACL he suffered in 2023.
The Ravens need someone more proven to back up Henry.
Cody Williams of FanSided believes that the Ravens could add more security and dynamism to their offense by making a trade for Jacksonville Jaguars running back, Travis Etienne.
“No one is going to reasonably say that Derrick Henry isn’t the workhorse in Baltimore. But while the Dallas Cowboys have been a popular trade connection for Etienne, the Ravens might actually make more sense,” Williams wrote. “Behind Henry is Justice Hill and Keaton Mitchell, both of whom have struggled to stay healthy and, frankly, who do what Etienne offers but slightly less reliably. The former first-rounder being the lightning behind Henry could make the Lamar Jackson-led offense even more dangerously dynamic.”
Etienne has been a solid back for the Jaguars.
He eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards in both 2022 and 2023 but took a step back in 2024, splitting carries with Tank Bigsby. With over 1,000 receiving yards over the past three seasons, Etienne has shown that he can also be an efficient and reliable pass-catcher out of the backfield.
With Etienne seeing fewer carries in 2024 and the Jaguars drafting running back Bhayshul Tuten in the fourth round of this year’s draft, Etienne could be traded elsewhere.
Adding Etienne to the Ravens’ backfield would be an immediate upgrade over Hill and Mitchell, while also providing crucial depth behind Henry.
