The Toronto Raptors figured they’d give a shot to a former first-round pick.
On Thursday, they signed David Roddy to an Exhibit 10 contract, according to Sportsnet’s Blake Murphy. That deal incentivizes Roddy to stay with Toronto’s G League team if he doesn’t make the NBA roster.
Roddy was just waived by the Hawks. That came after he was a piece moved from Houston to Atlanta in the seven-team Kevin Durant trade.
The 24-year old was the No. 23 overall pick by the Grizzlies in the 2022 NBA Draft.
He played a season and a half in Memphis, averaging 7.4 points and 3.3 rebounds in 20 minutes per game.

Then, he was traded to the Suns, where he never broke into the rotation.
Roddy has since played NBA minutes for the Hawks, Rockets and 76ers.
He’s an unusual player type, measuring in at 6-foot-4 and 255 pounds.

At Colorado State, he was a dominant star, but it’s been tough to fully translate that game to the NBA.
Roddy has not been a good enough 3-point shooter (30.2%) to compensate for his odd role on the floor.
The Raptors have a crowded offseason roster, but they apparently want to see Roddy’s unique skillset up close and decide if it’s anything they can work with. It’s a low-risk move that has a chance at some payoff.
