Raptors lose last player from 2019 championship roster in free agency

The 2019 Raptors’ NBA Finals title run was one of the most iconic championship runs in recent memory.

Kawhi Leonard was traded to the Raptors in the 2018 offseason, adding a player with championship experience to a roster looking to get over the hump.

Leonard was an impact player on that roster, but the Raptors’ overall depth played a huge role as well.

Leonard left after just one season in Toronto, and the Raptors failed to make even a sliver of a run in the postseason in the years following.

Players slowly left the team through trades and other transactions, but up until Tuesday, one player from the championship team remained.

Raptors officially lose last player from 2019 championship team

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Tuesday that Chris Boucher was signing a one-year deal with the Celtics.

Boucher spent the last seven years with the Raptors, including his first season in 2018-19 when they won it all.

He never was a consistent starter and was more of a role player, but his role increased in the seasons following when they won the title.

Boucher’s best season was in 2020-21 when he finished 8th in Sixth Man of the Year Voting. In 60 games that season, he averaged 13.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in 24.2 minutes.

He was the last Raptor from the 2019 championship team after the Raptors decided to trade away OG Anunoby and Pascal Siakam in the 2023-24 NBA season.

Boucher will look to have another career-type year, as the Celtics will have an opening for minutes this season among their bigs.
