Rangers use dominant win to cap off series win versus division foe Angels

ARLINGTON, TX – For the first time since July of 2011, the Texas Rangers scored 20 runs in a game.

It was the first time since right after the All-Star Break both the pitching and hitting were working in tandem back when the Rangers were the hottest team in baseball.

The Rangers managed 22 hits as well as 39 total bases in their biggest offensive outburst of the season.

Manager Bruce Bochy praised the team’s efforts after the game saying, “I thought it was a big game for us to take the series [and finish] a really good homestand. The bats from the start, they were there. Great at-bats, and it just got contagious throughout the lineup.”

On the same day after the team officially shut down ace Nathan Eovaldi for a rotator cuff injury, the bats had finally come to life.

In a lineup that seemed to be a shoo-in as one of the best slugging squads in preseason polls, there have been numerous struggles throughout the year.

Off-season additions such as Joc Pederson and Jake Burger, who were supposed to be everyday starters, have both been sent down to the minors at some point in this season and haven’t given the production they were expected.

Young stars like Wyatt Langford and Evan Carter, have shown a lot of potential this year but Langford’s inconsistencies and Carter’s inability to stay on the field have hurt this team’s ceiling.

Finally, the $500 million infield duo of Corey Seager and Marcus Semien have not only struggled to stay on the field but have also struggled to play like their 2023 selves.

For a team that was averaging just over four runs a game heading into this one, this explosion of runs seems like it’s exactly what the team needs heading into the final push for a spot in the playoffs.

With an incomplete rotation now that Eovaldi is out for the season and Jacob deGrom seeming to be dealing with minor injuries that could keep him out of starts, the Rangers will need more games, not exactly like this, but where they score between 5-10 runs to earn a spot in the post season.

They start a three game series on the road versus the Athletics heading into the final month of the regular season.
