Rangers predicted to trade Jacob deGrom to World Series contender

Jacob deGrom is looking a lot like his old self.

On Sunday for the Rangers, deGrom picked up a win, allowing just one run in six innings and lowering his season ERA to 2.34.

The 36-year old and former New York Mets star is quickly entering himself into the trade piece conversation, if the Rangers season turns just a little more sideways.

Right now, Texas is 29-31, not yet in a position to sell. But one bad stretch could change that.

Gary Sheffield Jr. posted on X on Sunday to write that deGrom is a definite trade candidate:

“If the Rangers fall out the AL West, Jacob DeGrom would be a crazy addition to a contender in the short term. Insane,” Sheffield Jr. wrote.

It’s been a long journey back to this level of effectiveness for deGrom.

Starting in 2021, he hasn’t had a full season. He pitched 15 games in ’21, 11 in ’22, 6 in ’23, and 3 last season.

His 12 games pitched this season are already his highest in four years, and knock on wood, he’s in a great place.

It’s not clear exactly what team would try to trade for him, but it could be any of the big market contenders, like the Dodgers, the Yankees, the Phillies and yes, the Mets.

No one would turn down the chance to add deGrom to their rotation at the right price. They’ll all be watching to see how the Rangers perform going forward in the interests of deGrom potentially becoming available.
