Rangers’ Joc Pederson is hitting for an unfathomably low batting average

Joc Pederson was once an accomplished MLB hitter.

Maybe someday, the current Rangers lefty who has suited up for the Dodgers, Cubs, Braves, Giants and Diamondbacks, will be one again.

But right now, Pederson is mired in one of the worst slumps in baseball history.

The 32-year old, who will celebrate his 33rd birthday on April 21, has three hits on the season.

How many at bats has it taken Pederson to get three hits? A whopping 53.

That’s an .057 batting average.

Is there anywhere for Pederson to find solace?

Well, he’s got five walks. And one of his hits was a double. He’s even scored two runs.

But Pederson has yet to drive in a single run. He’s yet to homer. He’s struck out 14 times in those 53 at bats, not even a remarkably bad rate for his usual standards.

He just hasn’t yet hit anything that has found the grass, or the favorable dirt, or anything.

Pederson is a career .238 hitter, not great but not awful in this era of slug over precision.

Just last season, Pederson hit .275 with 23 home runs and a .393 on-base percentage for the Diamondbacks.

This was supposed to be an exciting offseason pickup for the Rangers, and maybe it’ll still turn out that way.

But right now, it’s a nightmare for Pederson, one that he can’t seem to wake up from.
