Rangers could be in play for $11.5 million Orioles slugger

The Texas Rangers are currently struggling. They have lost seven of their last 10 games and now sit under .500 at 18-19.

They are only 4 1/2 games back of first place in the American League West, but they have three teams ahead of them.

The main problem for Texas has been their lineup. The offense has underachieved while the pitching staff is carrying the weight.

If the Rangers buy at the trade deadline, they should look for a bat or two. Andrew Wright of Newsweek noted that they could be in play for Ryan O’Hearn with the Baltimore Orioles trending towards the sellers’ market.

“His average is first on the team and his seven home runs tie him with [Cedric] Mullins for the team lead,” Wright says. “If he is made available, there are several teams who could use another left-handed bat in their lineup. The Red Sox, Giants, Reds and Rangers should all be interested in acquiring him.”

O’Hearn is in the final year of his contract before free agency, so it would make sense for the Orioles to sell him off and capitalize on his value while they still can.

The Rangers also have plenty of prospects to get a deal done, as they have a strong farm system.

O’Hearn is slashing .304/.379/.576 with 14 RBI and a .955 OPS in addition to his seven home runs. He could significantly bolster the Rangers’ offense.

We’ll see what direction Texas is headed in at the deadline.
