Rams’ Sean McVay makes Aaron Rodgers announcement after Matthew Stafford trade talks

Aaron Rodgers could’ve ended up in Hollywood.

That’s what Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay revealed to NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt on Wednesday.

The Rams allowed Matthew Stafford to engage in potential trade talks this offseason, and if that had gone through, L.A. might’ve gone after Rodgers.

“Our first priority, which was consistently communicated, was, ‘Hey, let’s work out something with Matthew,’ and we were very fortunate that it worked out that way,” McVay said. “If that wasn’t able to occur, then that was definitely conversations and a possibility for us. I have a ton of respect for the body of work, and I’ve gotten to know Aaron and enjoy the conversations and just the approach — the way that he thinks about the game and in life. That was a possibility.”

From one future Hall of Famer to another wouldn’t have been a bad deal for McVay.

He wanted to make clear that they were always happy with Stafford, though.

“Our first priority was always to be able to get Matthew back and what I do feel really fortunate about is I think we’re closer than ever,” McVay said. “I think sometimes when you’re able to have real conversations, I think you can appreciate the love that’s been built up but also the ability to be honest with one another. I’m really glad that worked out. I know there’s a lot of people in Pittsburgh that are really excited that’s come to fruition, and I’m a big fan of his.”

The Rams have been a great second act for Stafford after his time in Detroit.

Rodgers has to instead settle for the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he’ll try to prove that he can still be a star at 41 years old.

The Steelers reportedly even wanted Stafford instead of Rodgers.

It wouldn’t have taken much for this to be very, very different.
