With a last name that already carries weight, Los Angeles Rams safety Quentin Lake knows a thing or two about making a name for yourself. So, when asked by TMZ Sports about Shedeur Sanders’ NFL journey, Lake didn’t hesitate to tell the outlet that he’s going to be just fine.
Sanders, the son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, was drafted in the fifth round by the Cleveland Browns. While, Lake, the son of former Steelers All-Pro Carnell Lake, was a sixth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
It’s easy to draw parallels between the two underdog stories, but Lake turned that humble start into a standout career as one of the Rams top defensive backs (and as team captain), meaning he knows a thing or two about how to carve out your own legacy, and he had a little advice for Sanders.
“Unfortunately, the draft may not have went the way he wanted it to, but all you need is one team to take a chance on you,” Lake told TMZ. “He’s consistently beat the odds wherever he’s been … and that’s no different when it comes to the league, too.”
As for his relationship with his father, in January, Lake told the Los Angeles Times, “Football … is our love language.” And a famous father can be a real blessing according to Rams coach Sean McVay, who told the outlet, “You definitely feel that pedigree based on the love that he has and that relationship that he has with his father.”
