Raiders show clear preference in RB2 battle behind Ashton Jeanty

The Las Vegas Raiders are slated to start No.6 overall pick Ashton Jeanty at running back in 2025, but the team is currently holding a competition for the No.2 running back spot in training camp.

Though it is still incredibly early in the competition, it looks like head coach Pete Carroll and offensive coordinator Chip Kelly have shown who they prefer for the job based on the snap counts in Thursday’s practice.

According to Levi Edwards of Raiders.com, Sincere McCormick took most of the reps as the RB2 ahead of Raheem Mostert and Zamir White.

“Sincere McCormick took the bulk of second-team reps Thursday. While veterans Raheem Mostert and Zamir White have a larger sample size as starting NFL running backs, it seems Pete Carroll and his staff has been high on McCormick since OTAs,” Edwards wrote.

McCormick appeared in five games for the Raiders in 2024, rushing for 183 yards on 39 attempts. The former undrafted free agent showed some promise before suffering a season-ending ankle injury in Week 15 versus the Atlanta Falcons.

Though Mostert and White have more experience and would be decent options as the backup running back behind Jeanty, McCormick’s potential as a change-of-pace back makes him a nice fit with Jeanty.

The 24-year-old also showed fantastic efficiency in limited carries last season, and still has room to grow.

Overall, McCormick seems like the early favorite to be the No.2 running back, and he could be an impactful player in multiple ways for Las Vegas in 2025.
