With many of the biggest names in free agency already signed, most teams are now turning their attention to the 2025 NFL draft.
When it comes to the draft, the Las Vegas Raiders will be one of the more interesting teams to watch. The team has a top-10 pick, a new head coach and general manager, and a laundry list of needs.
Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports published an updated mock draft and the writer has the Raiders being aggressive. With the No. 6 pick, Trapasso has the team adding elite running back Ashton Jeanty to upgrade what was the league’s worst ground game in 2024.
Then, Trapasso has the Raiders trading back into the first round, sending pick No. 37, No. 68, and No. 215 to the Minnesota Vikings for pick No. 24. With that pick, the Raiders select East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel Jr.
Regarding this proposed move, Trapasso offered the following:
The Raiders jump at the opportunity to add a cornerback of Revel’s size and ball-hawking skill in Round 1. Without many picks entering this draft, the Vikings will be motivated to move back. In this deal, they net No. 37 (second round), No. 68 (third round) and No. 215 (sixth round).
In 2024, Revel played in just three games after suffering a torn ACL. However, in those three games, Revel secured eight tackles, two interceptions, and two pass deflections. In 24 college games, Revel collected 70 tackles, five tackles for loss, three interceptions and 15 pass deflections.
While some teams may be scared off by Revel’s lost season, the corner is expected to be ready for the start of the 2025 campaign.
Revel has the size that head coach Pete Carroll has traditionally valued in his cornerbacks, standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing in at 194 pounds. Revel has elite ball-tracking ability and isn’t afraid to get physical with ball carriers.
The Raiders could certainly use another starting-caliber corner. Eric Stokes was brought in to compete, but the team could still stand to upgrade. Jack Jones started on the boundary in 2024 and struggled to a 53.9 Pro Football Focus grade.
While the team would have to part with some valuable draft capital in this scenario, it would be worth it if the team got a starting cornerback who can be a long-term solution opposite 2024 breakout star, Jakorian Bennett.
In Trapasso’s scenario, the Raiders leave the first round of the draft with a starter on offense and defense, and it would be hard to be disappointed with that haul.
