The Las Vegas Raiders are a team with many needs, as is expected after a dreadful 4-13 season. Fortunately, the team has plenty of cap space, a high draft pick, and a new head coach and general manager in Pete Carroll and John Spytek who both have plenty of experience with winning teams.
The 2025 NFL Draft is just a couple of months away, so it’s officially mock draft season. Former NFL kick returner and current NFL Network writer Bucky Brooks is the latest expert to release one.
When it comes to the Raiders and the sixth overall pick, Brooks predicts the team to select arguably the draft’s best wide receiver in Arizona’s Tetairoa McMillan.
The Raiders desperately need to upgrade their offensive weapons. Regardless of who is under center in 2025, this group of pass-catchers needs an infusion of talent.
Tight end Brock Bowers excelled in 2024 and is already arguably among the league’s best at the position. Jakobi Meyers is a reliable veteran who eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark in 2024. Outside of those two, there’s no one to be excited about.
With McMillan, the Raiders would get a big, 6-foot-5, 212-pound wide receiver who caught 84 passes for 1,319 yards and eight touchdowns in 2024. McMillan eclipsed the 1,300-yard mark twice and totaled 26 scores in three years with Arizona.
Regarding McMillan’s fit in Las Vegas, Brooks offered the following:
“Upgrading the talent on the perimeter is a top priority for a Raiders offense that relied extensively on rookie tight end Brock Bowers in 2024.”
McMillan has been compared to big possession receivers like Mike Evans, for example. he excels with 50-50 balls and is quicker than would be expected for someone his size. The receiver is already a polished route-runner and has solid hands.
Adding McMillan would give the Raiders a legit No. 1 receiver. While it may be more exciting to add a quarterback, this class is not deep at the position and Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders may be gone before the Raiders come up to pick.
Trading up for a passer will undoubtedly be rumored from now until draft day, but as we saw in 2024, that isn’t guaranteed to happen. The Raiders need to have a contingency plan, and McMillan would be a strong one.
