When healthy, Christian Wilkins is one of the best interior defensive linemen in football.
Apparently, he’s not healthy, and apparently, the Las Vegas Raiders didn’t like how he was handling his rehab.
On Thursday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Raiders released Wilkins. And there’s more.
“Due to how Wilkins treated the rehab from his foot injury he suffered last season, the Raiders voided the remaining $35.2 million of guaranteed money left on Wilkins contract last month and today, Wilkins filed a grievance with the NFLPA,” Schefter wrote on X.
Wilkins had been out since October, when he suffered a Jones fracture in his foot.
The Raiders had originally signed Wilkins to a four-year, $110 million contract on March 10, 2024.
“This is a situation that is far from over,” Schefter added on X.

A lot could come down to the language in Wilkins’ contract, which likely specifies certain criteria for injury rehab.
It’s also an interesting move if Wilkins ends up being healthy again and signs with a new team, because he’s still very much in his prime.
For now, it’s a situation with a lot still to be determined, but a shocking one regardless.
