Raiders make decision on playing starters in preseason opener vs. Seahawks

The Las Vegas Raiders will kick off their preseason slate on Thursday night when they travel to take on the Seattle Seahawks.

It wasn’t clear if the Raiders would play their starters this week, but head coach Pete Carroll revealed the ones will indeed be in action on Thursday.

“Everybody is live, everybody is ready to go,” Carroll said, per Jesse Merrick of the Silver & Black Sports Network.

That means we’ll get our first look at new starting quarterback Geno Smith, who was brought in to provide an upgrade following a season in which Las Vegas had awful quarterback play.

We’ll also be getting our first look at No. 6 overall draft pick, Ashton Jeanty, who is expected to be the Raiders’ lead back in his first season.

Of course, another interesting story line will be Carroll’s return to his old stomping grounds in Seattle for the first time as the head coach of another team.

“I loved my time in Seattle and I love the fans… but it’s a game for us,” Carroll said, according to Nick Walter of KTNV.

According to Vegas Sports Today, the Seahawks are planning a tribute to Carroll, Smith and another former Seahawk, Jamal Adams, who recently signed with the Raiders and is now playing linebacker.

The Seahawks-Raiders showdown will kick off at 7 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on NFL Network.
