Raiders looking to extend another veteran after Kolton Miller deal

The Las Vegas Raiders extended left tackle Kolton Miller on Wednesday, but they might not be done handing out new contracts.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Thursday, the Raiders are in talks with veteran wide receiver Jakobi Meyers for a new contract.

Meyers has been with the team since 2023 and tallied his first 1,000-yard season in 2024, serving as the Raiders’ No. 1 wideout following the Davante Adams trade.

“That might not be the last deal that the Raiders do,” Rapoport said of Miller’s new contract. “Jakobi Meyers, their standout receiver, one of their big-ticket free-agent signings a couple of years back, has been excellent for this team. That is another player who is in talks with the organization about potentially a new deal.”

Does Jakobi Meyers deserve an extension?

The answer to that question would be a resounding “yes.”

Meyers signed a three-year, $33 million contract with the Raiders back in 2023 and has been as reliable as they come in that span. Making his stint in Las Vegas more impressive is the fact that Meyers has had to overcome bad quarterback play.

Meyers posted his third-straight 800-yard season in 2023 while finding pay dirt a career-high eight times, and then in 2024 he recorded a personal-best 1,027 yards along with four touchdowns.

His quarterbacks in that span? Jimmy Garoppolo, Aidan O’Connell, Brian Hoyer, Gardner Minshew and Desmond Ridder.

The biggest concern about extending Meyers is his age. The North Carolina State product will be turning 29 in November, which means the first year of a new deal would be in his age-30 season. However, he definitely hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down.

Meyers has proven himself worthy of an extension and it appears the Raiders are well aware of that.
