Even after the first walk-off home run of Rafael Devers’ life, he had to be asked afterward about the first base controversy with the Boston Red Sox.
Triston Casas is out for the year, and Devers has expressed that he doesn’t want to move from designated hitter to first base.
He was already moved out of the field to start the year, when free agent signee Alex Bregman took over at third base, thus putting him as a DH-only player.
On Saturday night, Devers first made a statement with his bat. He turned on a walk-off home run way out to right field at Fenway.

In his postgame media scrum, Devers was asked if this helps put in the rearview mirror all the difficult negotiations of late, things that it would be fair for a human being to dwell on.
His response instead showed a human capable of choosing to move on: “That already happened.”
That doesn’t sound like a player who plans to play first base anytime soon, but it also doesn’t sound like a guy who is upset about the recent vibes in Boston.
Devers sure seemed happy to be at the plate on Sunday. After his nightmare start to the season, he has heated up.
He has solidified his role as an All-Star DH, and despite the position change issues, it all seems to have worked out just fine.
