Rafael Devers sets San Francisco Giants record with laser home run

Rafael Devers has finally heated up.

The San Francisco Giants’ blockbuster trade acquisition from earlier in the season took a while, and in the process, the Giants’ climb toward the postseason got a lot tougher.

But of late, the former Boston Red Sox star is on fire.

Devers hit nine home runs in August, and he didn’t waste time in September.

On Labor Day, which was the first day of the new month, Devers homered again.

This one was in Coors Field, and it set a new Giants record.

Statcast first started tracking exit velocities in 2015. And since then, no Giants player has hit a home run harder than Devers hit his on Monday: 114.5 miles per hour.

Sarah Langs of MLB Network provided the statistic.

It was pretty much a laser down the right field line that Devers turned on with quite the authority.

It’ll be a long time before the Red Sox decision to trade Devers to the Giants can be fully assessed.

But it doesn’t take long to realize Devers can still really, really hit.

The bat is special, and San Francisco should reap the benefits of that for a long time to come.
