The Boston Red Sox traded Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants in a shocking move after they finished a three-game sweep of the Yankees at Fenway Park.
Things were starting to look up for the Red Sox as they had won eight of their last ten games and positioned themselves just 1/2 a game back of a wild card spot. However, the mood has certainly shifted after the team traded away its best hitter. The Red Sox are getting Jordan Hicks, Kyle Harrison, James Tibbs and Jose Bello.
Ever since spring training, there had been some tension between the Red Sox and the front office. They signed Alex Bregman and planned to move Devers off of third base. He pushed back on the idea, but eventually agreed. However, when Triston Casas got hurt and the chief baseball officer Craig Breslow asked him to play first base, he went on a rant in the media.
Devers said he was upset with how the organization treats him and that he disagrees with moves made by Breslow. He said he would not consider playing first base and that the team is not understanding the difficulty of another position change.
However, the long struggle between the two sides is officially over. Devers will join the Giants and is “happy,” according to MLB insider Jon Heyman.

“Devers is said by friends to be happy. Of course, like Boston, SF has a Gold Glove 3B,” wrote Heyman on X.
The Giants are just one game back of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West. They will now add Devers to a lineup that already has stars like Willy Adames and Matt Chapman.
