PSG’s €95M transfer faces career uncertainty as loan stint turns sour

Randal Kolo Muani is facing a level of career uncertainty after the French international was relegated to the bench at Juventus, casting doubt on his future with both the Italian club and parent club PSG.

The striker who was purchased by PSG for nearly €95 million from Eintracht Frankfurt two years ago, joined Juventus on loan this winter to revitalise his career after falling out of favour with Luis Enrique in Paris.

Kolo Muani had initial success at Juventus under then-manager Thiago Motta, who also convinced the Frenchman to make the move to Turin. The initial three matches saw him score five goals, however, his form has since dropped dramatically, with the forward failing to find the net in his last ten matches.

According to L’Equipe, Kolo Muani is “unhappy and disappointed” with his current situation which has worsened since Igor Tudor replaced Motta as head coach on March 23. The Croatian manager has preferred Dušan Vlahović as his main striker, leaving Kolo Muani with severely limited playing time.

It is likely he won’t extend his stay in Italy if his situation doesn’t improve. A departure from Juventus this summer is definitely on the cards, but Tudor has only been hired until the end of the season, and it’s not clear if he’ll continue after that.

The numbers also clearly show Kolo Muani’s declining role. Between February 24 and March 16, the 26-year-old regularly played 75-90 minutes per match. Since Tudor’s arrival, his playing time has plummeted, and didn’t play at all against Genoa on March 29.

L’Equipe also confirms that Juventus’s management hasn’t completely closed the door on retaining Kolo Muani, potentially offering PSG a loan with a mandatory purchase option payable in 2026.

However, this depends on two crucial factors: Juventus qualifying for next season’s Champions League (they currently sit fifth with a game in hand) and Tudor being replaced by a manager who values Kolo Muani’s abilities.

PSG, meanwhile, appears eager to minimize their financial losses with Luis Enrique still not counting on Kolo Muani for next season. PSG hopes the player’s status as a French international will attract suitors from England and Germany, who have shown interest in the past.
