The dawn of the European club season is upon us as the annual curtain-raiser sets the stage with Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain squaring off against Europa League champions Tottenham in the 2025 UEFA Super Cup.
The annual showcase match will see one of these two clubs walk away with a second trophy in four months after each ended last campaign with a famous European triumph.
After finishing last season 17th in the Premier League table, this summer still felt like a rebuild for Spurs despite their Europa League run, and they will know the mountain is steep if they wish to pull off this upset. Yet new manager Thomas Frank will know PSG are still beatable, as proven in the Club World Cup final earlier this summer, which saw Chelsea win the title in a surprising blowout.
PSG are in transition, too, despite finally claiming European glory last May. The Parisians have left star goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma out of the squad for this match, as a contract dispute has seen them move on to new signing Lucas Chevalier in net.

PSG vs. Tottenham prediction, odds
Often the UEFA Super Cup presents an intriguing game between two sides with a smaller talent gap than perception may indicate. Even as the Champions League winner usually comes out on top, as they have in each of the last six and 11 of the last 12, it’s usually not without a fight.
That doesn’t seem to be the case this year. The gulf between these two teams is, in truth, even larger than the odds suggest, and it’s hard to imagine Spurs putting up any kind of challenge.
Until PSG vacate the property and someone else steps in to fill the space, the French club is undoubtedly the best team in the world. While single results can often fall outside expectations despite the relative standing between these two teams, it’s highly unlikely that Spurs have the ability to overcome the talent disparity here.

PSG vs. Tottenham best bet
- Pick: PSG over 2.5 total goals
- Odds: +120 (DraftKings)
The Tottenham back line was an issue all last season under Ange Postecoglou. While the struggles were mainly concentrated to Premier League play while Spurs largely kept it together in Europe, that had plenty to do with the level of Europa League opposition, which provided little in the way of world-class talent.
Frank should in theory manage to shore up the significant defensive frailties that cropped up due to injuries and Postecoglou’s tactical inflexibility, but the team remains deficient at the back.
Friendlies count for little in the way of long-term predictions, but they can indicate short-term trends, and a 4-0 humbling by Bayern Munich last weekend despite a first-choice Spurs starting lineup does feel foreboding. PSG have decimated better teams than Spurs, and after losing in the Club World Cup final, they will be keen to reassert themselves as the dominant club in Europe.
PSG vs. Tottenham prop bet
- Pick: Tottenham over 2.5 total cards
- Odds: +165
Tottenham have two walking yellow cards in defender Cristian Romero and new signing Joao Palhinha, both of whom are likely to start this match.
Additionally, players are still often working out the kinks at this early stage of the season, leading to a number of awkward challenges and a bit of needle. Six of the last nine UEFA Super Cups have seen at least four yellow cards shown.
Finally, Portuguese referee Joao Pinheiro has been known to side with the winners in lopsided European affairs. In a 3-1 Bayern Munich win over Slovan Bratislava in last season’s Champions League, he booked the Slovakian club three times to Bayern’s none, while he showed Bologna four yellow cards in a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa.
