PSG hero addresses uncertain future ahead of Champions League final

With the UEFA Champions League final against Inter Milan few days away, PSG’s captain Marquinhos has addressed mounting uncertainty over his future at the club.

Marquinhos, 31, the club’s all-time appearance leader with 484 matches and 41 goals, acknowledged the growing speculation.

“My future? The feeling that I have is that the manager and the club are satisfied with my work, but we never know about the future,” the Brazilian said last week.

“That is why, in every match, I give 100% for the club. I have so much love for this club. I will always give 100% for it!”

Despite his contract running until 2028, which was signed just days after his 29th birthday, Les Parisians stance has shifted.

Once deemed untouchable, the Ligue 1 giants are now open to a potential transfer, L’Équipe reports.

Saudi Arabian clubs, who showed intense interest last summer, remain keen and have doubled down in recent months.

Having joined PSG from Roma in 2013 at age 19, Marquinhos has spent over a decade in Paris, becoming a symbol of the QSI era.

He succeeded Thiago Silva as captain in 2020 and has made 106 appearances in the Champions League, scoring nine times. The final on May 31 will be his second on European football’s grandest stage.

If Sunday’s final is his last match in a PSG shirt, the captain will look to lift the club’s first Champions League trophy before potentially bringing a historic era to a close.

What do this season’s stats say about Marquinhos’ performance?

Marquinhos numbers have been solid in the last year and he continues to prove his value in PSG’s defense.

According to Fbref, he has averaged 86.49 passes per 90 minutes (97th percentile) with a 94.6% completion rate (99th percentile), which clearly highlights his composure on the ball.

He also ranks in the 90th percentile for shot-creating actions (1.35 per 90) and 97th percentile for progressive passes (6.91 per 90)—solid numbers for a center-back.
