PSG handed injury headache ahead of Real Madrid showdown

PSG are one win away from securing a place in the FIFA Club World Cup final, but nothing about their path to the semifinals has been easy.

After a 2-0 win over Bayern Munich in the quarters, Luis Enrique’s team now face Real Madrid at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele delivered the goals that sent PSG through against the Bavarians, with Ballon d’Or candidate Dembele striking deep into stoppage time

However, it was Italy international Gianluigi Donnarumma who was the star of the show – making multiple big saves – including a close-range effort from Jamal Musiala just before he left injured after an accidental collision.

Now PSG turn their attention to Real Madrid, who beat Borussia Dortmund 3-2 via goals from Gonzalo García, Fran García and Kylian Mbappe.

Key PSG players miss training ahead of Real Madrid clash

As PSG began the post-Bayern recovery at their Kennesaw training base, the absence of key players raised fresh concerns, with Achraf Hakimi and Fabián Ruiz confined to the gym and not participating in outdoor training, according to AS.

Presnel Kimpembe, who is still recovering from a long-term injury, also remained inside.

With Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez suspended for the Real Madrid match, PSG’s defensive depth is suddenly in question.

Hakimi’s pace and overlapping runs from right-back are vital in Luis Enrique’s tactical setup, while Ruiz offers balance and ball retention in midfield.

Their status remains uncertain as the squad travel to New York. With Real Madrid boasting the firepower of Mbappe and midfield control through Jude Bellingham, PSG could find themselves short of options in key areas, if there is no positive update on their absent stars.
