The Pittsburgh Steelers are currently stuck in the Aaron Rodgers saga, as the team continues to wait for the veteran quarterback to make a decision. And, with their lackluster quarterback situation right now, they need him more than ever.
Without Rodgers, the Steelers don’t have a starting-caliber quarterback on their roster. Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson are the only signal-callers under contract and neither one will be able to get Pittsburgh to where it wants to go.
With it remaining a possibility that Rodgers doesn’t pick the Steelers after all and instead opts to retire, something he hinted is possible, Pittsburgh needs to give itself more options. One possible option could be a former second-round pick who might be on the trade block depending on what his team does in the 2025 NFL draft.
That player is quarterback Will Levis, who was drafted in the second round in 2023 and flamed out spectacularly with the Tennessee Titans in 2024. Now, the Titans are sitting with the No. 1 overall pick and are likely to draft Miami’s Cam Ward, which would make Levis expendable.
Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton recently suggested trade packages for Levis and one of them comes from the Steelers. Moton sees the Steelers swapping picks with the Titans and acquiring Levis if the Titans do indeed draft Ward.
- Steelers Get: QB Will Levis, 2024 fifth-round pick
- Titans Get: 2025 fourth-round pick
“Levis’ skill set could mesh with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, who found success with dual-threat quarterback Justin Fields early last season,” Moton wrote. “Levis isn’t nearly as dynamic of a runner as Fields is, but he can scramble well enough to keep defenses honest. His arm strength would also allow Pittsburgh to stretch the field with receivers George Pickens and DK Metcalf.”

Levis had a nightmare campaign in 2024 and was eventually replaced by Rudolph. Turnovers were the biggest issue for the Kentucky product, who showed terrible decision-making. It also didn’t help that Levis had a lackluster supporting cast around him, especially along the offensive line.
However, it hasn’t all been bad for Levis. He did show plenty of promise during his rookie campaign, making him an intriguing addition. Perhaps a change of scenery to a better situation in Pittsburgh and a more quarterback-friendly system will get Levis back on track.
Considering the Titans will have very little leverage in a Levis trade because of the expected selection of Ward, it’s hard to imagine them getting that high of a pick back, even with a swap. We tend to believe the Steelers could nab him with an exchange of late-Day 3 picks.
It would be well worth it to make that deal for Levis. Not only does he give the Steelers an option for 2025, but there’s a chance he develops into a long-term solution, also, which the Steelers will still need even if they land Rodgers.
