Trading season is starting to heat up. The Philadelphia 76ers haven’t gotten themselves involved yet, but that will likely change over the next several weeks.
The Sixers are in need of plenty before the trade deadline. As the fourth-worst three-point shooting team in the NBA – shooting nearly 33% from three – the Sixers could use a three-point sniper. However, they would need one that can do more than space the floor.
That’s why players like Lonzo Ball have been floated. He’s not necessarily the best floor-spacer the Sixers could get, but he’s multi-faceted as a player. However, with Ball, that’s only on paper.
One player who’s fit would be perfect is Brooklyn Nets wing Cameron Johnson. Johnson is one of the NBA’s best 3&D wings who doesn’t have much of a future playing with the Nets. After they traded Dennis Schroder, the Nets have signaled that they will embrace a rebuild.
Philly Sixers Galaxy floated the following blockbuster trade between the Sixers, Nets, and Atlanta Hawks that would send Johnson to the Sixers.
Sixers receive: Johnson
Nets receive: KJ Martin, Kelly Oubre Jr., Larry Nance Jr., 2026 first-round pick (Oklahoma City, Houston, or Clippers), Clippers 2028 first-round pick
Hawks receive: Caleb Martin, Shake Milton, 2028 second-round pick
The Nets will ask for the farm for Johnson
Even though it makes sense, and he’s popped up in trade rumors, it’s still not a certainty that they will trade Johnson.
If they do, they will want as much draft capital as possible. The Sixers have some, but not a lot because of the previous trades they have made. Johnson has so much value that the Nets could demand fan favorite Jared McCain in return.
If the Sixers pull it off, that would solve so many of their problems on the court. The question will be whether the Nets want to play ball in a Johnson trade, and if they’d really trade him to a division rival.
