Premier League star ‘ready to strike’ as Newcastle transfer exit is blocked

Newcastle United have landed a boost in their race to sign a new striker before the start of the 2025/26 Premier League season.

Alexander Isak’s future remains the main focus on Tyneside, with the Sweden international training alone in Spain, as the Magpies ownership aim to keep him at the club.

As the saga rolls on, Newcastle are prepared to stand their ground on Isak, despite Premier League champions Liverpool reportedly planning a record move for the 26-year-old.

The Swedish international netted 23 top-flight goals – and 27 across all competitions – in 2024/25, but Newcastle are drawing up a replacement list.

Even in the event of Isak staying for the 2025/26 campaign, Eddie Howe is still desperately short of attacking firepower, with veteran striker Callum Wilson already leaving on a free transfer.

Newcastle have fallen short in their attempts to sign Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko with Brentford star Yoane Wissa now Howe’s No.1 target.

Previous reports have indicated Wissa is ‘furious’ over Brentford’s initial decision to block an exit but the DR Congo is ready to fight for his move away.

Yoane Wissa ‘ready to strike’ over Brentford exit

Wissa netted a career-high 19 Premier League goals last season as striker partner Bryan Mbeumo scored 20.

However, amid major changes at the club – with Thomas Frank taking charge at Tottenham and Mbeumo completing a £65m move to Manchester United – Wissa wants to be the next to leave.

Brentford reportedly turned down a £25m bid from two Premier League rivals, as they push for closer to £50m based on Mbuemo’s exit price.

That has triggered a stand-off with Wissa claiming the club are backtracking on an agreement made last summer to let him leave if a UEFA Champions League team bid for his services.

New Brentford boss Keith Andrews confirmed Wissa was allowed to leave their preseason camp in Portugal to return to London for discussions with his agent.

Andrews stated the 28-year-old would be expected back in training on July 31, but that has not happened.

The latest from Sky Sports claims Wissa did not train on his return to Brentford’s base, and left before his teammates, with the Lorient star ready to go on strike to force through a departure.
