It has been a happening transfer window for Liverpool as they announced the signing of Florian Wirtz. However, the Premier League champions aren’t done yet as they are now close to wrapping up the deal for Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.
As per several reports, Liverpool are also contemplating a couple of more signings this summer, but before that, they will look to free up some funds. Among many other players, Jarell Quansah could be on his way out as Bayer Leverkusen have stepped up interest in the young defender.
He could be the perfect replacement for Jonathan Tah, and therefore, Leverkusen are keen to land him. The Reds will reportedly secure £34m (€40m) for the youngster.
However, according to Sky Sports, Liverpool and Arsenal are looking at some defensive reinforcements, and Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi’s name came up multiple times.
Both the Premier League clubs are monitoring the England international, who had a great last season for the Eagles. He is ready to take the next step in his career but there’s a massive catch.
As per reports on Sky Sports, Guehi is not ready to move to a team where he won’t get the assurance of being a guaranteed first-team starter. Also, agreeing on a fee with Palace would be difficult, as he is a key member of the team.

So this clears that he would not be a direct replacement for Quansah at Anfield. However, with Ibrahima Konate’s future getting uncertain as the Frenchman only has a year left in his contract, the Reds could later show interest in Guehi.
However, Liverpool are keen to hold onto Konate, and negotiations with his representatives have begun over a new contract, with Real Madrid hovering in the background, monitoring the entire situation.
Similarly, it is difficult for Arsenal to promise the same role to Guehi as they already have William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes in their ranks. They wanted an upgrade over Jakub Kiwior, and Guehi could well be that player, but the English defender is hellbent on securing a first-team starter role.
How much could Crystal Palace ask for Guehi?
Interestingly, Liverpool are reportedly preparing a bid for the 24-year-old. However, there are no indications of how much he would cost this summer. In January, Palace rejected Tottenham Hotspur’s bid of £55 million plus add-ons, and the Reds may not be ready to match that figure.
Guehi moved to South London in 2021 for a reported fee of £18 million from Chelsea. He was neglected at Stamford Bridge, and he eventually got his due at Selhurst Park.
The 24-year-old developed into one of the best defenders in the Premier League and was pivotal to Oliver Glasner’s system. He played a big role in helping Palace win the FA Cup last season, where they defeated Manchester City in the final.
He was also a big part of the England national team at last year’s Euros as the Three Lions reached the final, where they lost to Spain.
Known for his physical stature and positional awareness, Guehi is someone who will represent England in the next year years and also could develop into one of the best defenders in Europe.
He featured in 45 matches last season across competitions and scored three goals. He has a calm head on his shoulders with decent ball-playing skills, which allows him to manoeuvre his way out of tough situations in defence.
