Premier League rivals join race to sign Chelsea star

Chelsea’s Premier League rivals, Nottingham Forest, have joined the race to sign Blues star Christopher Nkunku, who was part of Chelsea’s Club World Cup-winning squad.

Though the Frenchman played a key role in leading Chelsea to glory in the tournament, he has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge after being deemed surplus to requirements before the start of the competition.

Since his move from RB Leipzig in 2023, Nkunku has failed to nail down a place in Chelsea’s starting 11 and failed to recreate the kind of form that earned him a move to West London in the first place.

More importantly, he has fallen further down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge following the recent additions of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.

According to journalist Simon Philips via Substack, Forest joined the race to sign Nkunku on Monday afternoon.

It has been reported that the forward has generated interest from Newcastle United, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and other clubs around Europe.

How much Chelsea want for Christopher Nkunku

According to The Athletic, Chelsea’s current asking price for Nkunku is £43m ($57m).

However, they might struggle to find potential suitors at that price since they bought him for £52m ($70m) just two years ago.

Forest are currently in the market for a new winger, having sold Anthony Elanga to Newcastle United in the ongoing summer transfer window.

If Forest does manage to land their man, it will be a statement signing for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team.
