Following Chelsea’s impressive 3-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the final of the Club World Cup, the expectation levels around the club have gone up a notch.
While the club and its fans celebrate their success, the most obvious question that surrounds the club at this point is whether they can go a step further and mount a challenge for the Premier League title next season.
While the jury is still out on this question, a Premier League legend has had his say on the matter and backed the Blues to be in the reckoning for the title next season.
Former Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers star Alan Shearer believes that Enzo Maresca’s team has what it takes to be in a title challenge next season.
According to Shearer, Chelsea have got to be considered a Premier League title contender for next season after the way they romped to the Club World Cup trophy.

Alan Shearer backs Chelsea to challenge for next season’s Premier League title
Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Shearer said: “I think it would take a very, very brave person to say that Chelsea would not be involved in the title hunt next year because of what they’ve achieved this season, what they’ve just achieved, who they’ve signed, and who they will sign. I think you have to say they will be involved in the title race.”
The Blues finished fourth in the league last season, 15 points behind runaway champions Liverpool. It will be interesting to see how the group now reacts to the added pressure that will come on them next term.
