Pep Guardiola and Manchester City are gearing up for a busy summer transfer window.
After a underwhelming 2024/25 season ended with a third-place finish in the Premier League, changes in Guardiola’s squad are highly anticipated.
While Guardiola has confirmed ‘new faces’ will be arrive at Etihad Stadium in the coming weeks, questions over existing stars have also surfaced.
Speaking about one of those linked with an exit, Guardiola also recently gave an update on Jack Grealish, who has dropped the Catalan manager’s pecking order over the last two seasons.
“Of course Jack has to play. He’s an unbelievable player that has to play football every three days. It didn’t happen this season and last season either. He needs to do it. With us or in another place. It’s a question for Jack, his agent and the club.”
Now, Premier League legend Alan Shearer has shared his take on Grealish’s future amid uncertainties at Man City.

What did Alan Shearer say about Jack Grealish?
Speaking on Grealish’s potential destinations, Shearer told Betfair that despite rumors over the 29-year-old and Newcastle United, he thinks it’s unlikely to happen.
“I think Jack’s best position is coming off the left. That’s where we saw the best of him at Aston Villa and he was best there for Man City. That’s the position where Newcastle are really strong. They’ve got [Harvey] Barnes and [Anthony] Gordon for that side so I’d be surprised if Newcastle were in for him,.”
“It looks from the outside there’s no future for him at Man City. Not whilst Pep is there. When this situation happens, you either sit there and take your money or you think ‘I’ve got enough money, I need to get out and play’ and I know Jack isn’t the type to sit around and do whatever.”
Shearer suggested Grealish has to consider ‘whatever options are available to him.’
“If playing abroad is the only option, he’ll have to look at it, but I’m sure he’ll have options from elsewhere. You have to look at everything else we’ve mentioned. Whether a deal can be done or not, whether he has to go out on loan, I don’t know. You’d be foolish to rule out a move abroad or to the Premier League. He has to look at whatever options are available to him.”
It remains to be seen what Grealish decides for the upcoming season as Man City head for the Club World Cup, with their first match against Moroccan side Wydad AC on June 18.
