Premier League final day 2025 scores: Updates, highlights, results as season ends in battle for Europe

The 2024/25 Premier League season concluded today, with all 20 teams kicking off at the same time.

While the title and relegation races may have been wrapped up some weeks ago, there was plenty to play for in the battle to qualify for European football.

Manchester City, Newcastle United and Chelsea claimed those prized extra UEFA Champions League places. Aston Villa, who were let down by a decisive refereeing mistake, and Nottingham Forest were left with the lesser prizes in terms of European qualification.

Ruben Amorim then delivered an on-pitch apology to Manchester United fans once their worst season in the Premier League era had come to a close.

The Sporting News will provide live score updates and highlights from the final 10 matches of the Premier League season below

*All times local (BST)

Fulltime

It’s over across the 10 games, and Manchester CityNewcastle United and Chelsea have qualified for the Champions League! Aston Villa are heading for the Europa League. Nottingham Forest will play in the Conference League.

5:51 p.m.: Brighton are 4-1 up at Spurs! This is quite the hangover from midweek. Bournemouth are 2-0 up against Leicester. West Ham have a third at Ipswich.

5:49 p.m.: GOAL! CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN MAKES IT 2-0! Ian Maatsen seemed to slip and caught Amad on his heel, and the referee (eventually) awarded a penalty. Fernandes gave the ball to Eriksen, who stroked it down the middle of the goal for what will be his last United goal.

5:44 p.m.: GOAL! IT HAD TO BE MOHAMED SALAH! He draws Liverpool level and cements his place at the top of the Golden Boot standings.

5:39 p.m.: GOAL! MAN UNITED LEAD! Amad Diallo heads United in front less than four minutes after Villa should have been 1-0 up!

5:38 p.m.: HUGE CONTROVERSY AT OLD TRAFFORD! Altay Bayindir gives up the ball in his own box and Morgan Rogers puts it into the net. The referee immediately blows for a foul, which means VAR can’t get involved. Replays show Bayindir had dropped it, and Rogers did nothing wrong!

5:31 p.m.: RED CARD! Ryan Gravenberch receives a second yellow card for bringing down Daichi Kamada as he ran through on goal. His first booking was for a dive just seven minutes ago!

5:30 p.m.: GOAL! Jack Hinshelwood has his second of the day, and Brighton now lead at Spurs.

5:28 p.m.: GOAL! EVERTON LEAD AT NEWCASTLE! Carlos Alcaraz has put the Toffees 1-0 up, which means, as thing stand, Aston Villa will take Newcastle’s Champions League place!

5:23 p.m.: AS THINGS STAND: Man City, Newcastle and Chelsea will be joining Liverpool and Arsenal in the Champions League next season. Aston Villa will be in the Europa League. Nottingham Forest will be in the Conference League.

5:22 p.m.: Man United could have scored six today. They’ve scored none. That probably tells you why they’re about to finish in the bottom five.

5:16 p.m.: Goals everywhere! Southampton are level with Arsenal through Ross Stewart, Brighton have equalised at Spurs, and West Ham are now 2-1 up at Ipswich.

5:11 p.m.: GOAL! COLWILL PUTS CHELSEA AHEAD! Moments after Man United had a goal disallowed against Villa, Colwill pokes home to put the Blues ahead at Forest. That could be a massive, massive moment.

Follow every minute of the action from The City Ground here.

5 p.m.: Let’s see what the last 45 minutes of the season brings…

Halftime scores

Bournemouth 0-0 Leicester City
Fulham 0-1 Manchester City
Ipswich 0-1 West Ham
Liverpool 0-1 Crystal Palace
Manchester United 0-0 Aston Villa
Newcastle 0-0 Everton
Nottingham Forest 0-0 Chelsea
Southampton 0-1 Arsenal
Wolves 0-1 Brentford

4:48 p.m.: RED CARD FOR ASTON VILLA! Emi Martinez is off at Old Trafford! The keeper takes out Rasmus Hojlund 40 yards from the Villa goal after Matty Cash gave up the ball with a loose pass. Did Martinez really need to do that? Hojlund had a lot to do to score from there.

4:44 p.m.: Chris Wood misses a GREAT chance for Forest! He gets to Ola Aina’s cross ahead of Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, but he can only volley the ball over the bar. Best opening of this game so far.

4:37 p.m.: Still no goals anywhere else. It’s a combination of some players being under huge pressure, and others already thinking about their holidays.

4:21 p.m.: GOAL! Goals everywhere, now! Man City take the lead at Fulham through Ilkay Gundogan. City are on course for the Champions League.

4:20 p.m.: GOAL! Bryan Mbeumo puts Brentford ahead at Wolves. As things stand, Brentford will finish in eighth place, above Brighton. Remember that that could be enough for the Conference League depending on other results.

4:19 p.m.: GOAL! Tottenham take the lead over Brighton through a Dominic Solanke penalty.

4:18 p.m.: Man United have had 68% of the ball and four shots on target in the first quarter of an hour against Villa. No goals scored. It also looks like Noussair Mazraoui has suffered a hamstring injury.

4:13 p.m.: Man City fans are enjoying themselves.

4:09 p.m.: GOAL! It’s Crystal Palace with the first of the day! Ismaila Sarr strikes to spoil the Anfield party.

Kickoff

The final 90 minutes of the season are underway!

3:42 p.m.: Meanwhile, Ben Jacobs reports that Ruud van Nistelrooy will leave Leicester City, with ex-Saints manager Russell Martin set to replace him.

3:30 p.m.: This has been an awful season for Southampton, but it ends with what they will hope is a nod to a brighter future. The club confirmed today that Will Still, who has impressed in Ligue 1 in recent years, will take over as manager.

3:23 p.m.: Alejandro Garnacho is not in the Man United squad today. According to reports, he was told yesterday that he can leave United in the summer. It seems his poor reaction to being left out of the starting lineup for the Europa League final was the final straw in a somewhat tricky relationship with Ruben Amorim. That said, Amorim has confirmed he’ll be in United’s tour squad for their post-season trip to Malaysia and Hong Kong.

3:15 p.m.: Arsenal, who are certain to finish second, hand starts to Kieran Tierney, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Raheem Sterling today. It feels like farewell appearances for the trio.

3:04 p.m.: Alexander Isak starts for Newcastle United. It’s a full-strength team for Eddie Howe against Everton.

3:03 p.m.: Have we seen the last of Trent Alexander-Arnold in a Liverpool jersey? He’s on the bench today for their final game before he leaves the club on a free transfer.

3:00 p.m.: Jadon Sancho starts Chelsea’s do-or-die clash with Forest today. He’s another whose future is unclear after today. Reece James captains the Blues.

2:59 p.m.: Man City are almost there in the UCL race. Pep Guardiola names a strong team for their game at Fulham. Kevin De Bruyne will hope to get off the bench for one last City appearance.

2:57 p.m.: Bruno Fernandes starts for Man United today. Could it be for the last time? Ruben Amorim certainly hopes his captain won’t leave.

2:30 p.m.: Arguably the big game of the day takes place at The City Ground. Nottingham Forest and Chelsea are effectively in a straight shootout for a Champions League place (although other results will play a part, too). You can follow every minute of that game with our dedicated live blog.

2:03 p.m.: There’s a very different vibe for Liverpool fans today. For the first time in 35 years, supporters will get to celebrate their team winning the title inside Anfield, their 2020 triumph having been behind closed doors due to COVID-19.

1:38 p.m.: Man United might only be playing for (a very small amount of) pride today, but fans are going to make sure they are not ignored. Another protest against the ownership of the Glazers and the club’s stewardship under INEOS is planned for before the game. Ruben Amorim has also said he will offer an on-pitch apology for their season after the match with Villa is over.

1 p.m.: Here we go, then: one last matchday of the Premier League season 2024/25. The title and relegation races might have been sewn up early, but there’s the small matter of the battle for Europe to be decided today. Plus, the all-important question: will Tottenham or Manchester United finish closest to the bottom three?

Premier League European race: Who needs what to qualify?

There are still as many as five European places up for grabs today: three in the UEFA Champions League, two in the UEFA Europa League, and one in the UEFA Conference League.

You can see a more precise breakdown of the state of play for the Premier League (and Europe’s big five leagues) right here. However, in a basic sense, these are the teams with something to play for today:

  • Manchester City: Realistically need a point at Fulham to be certain of a UCL place.
  • Newcastle United: A win over Everton will make sure of UCL football.
  • Chelsea: A draw at Nottingham Forest may be enough for the UCL. A win would be.
  • Aston Villa: Need a win (or at least a draw) at Manchester United and help from elsewhere for top five.
  • Nottingham Forest: Similar position to Villa. The fact they play Chelsea is to their advantage.
  • Brighton and Brentford: One of these teams will finish eighth. A point will do it for Brighton; Brentford need a win and for Brighton to lose. Eighth may be enough for a place in the Conference League IF Chelsea win that final next week and other results go Brighton and Brentford’s way today.
