Premier League club joins transfer race to sign Liverpool star

Liverpool have been one of the most active clubs in the summer transfer window. They have already wrapped up Jeremie Frimpong and the big-money signing of Florian Wirtz. They are also close to securing the services of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.

Amidst all the incoming, the Reds will also see a few players leaving the club. One such player could be Harvey Elliot. The Liverpool academy graduate may leave the club this summer in search of more game time.

As per reports via The Sun, Brighton and Hove Albion have identified Elliot as their primary target. They believe that a transfer fee close to £40 million could tempt the young midfielder to leave Anfield.

There are reports that Brighton rate him highly and they believe he could be an ideal candidate to feature in Fabian Hurzeler’s high-intensity, attacking brand of football. The fact that Elliot can play in a central role and also drift wide makes him extremely versatile.

Elliot has been a boyhood fan of Liverpool and wants to continue at the club. However, with Wirtz’s signing, the Reds are stacked in a position where he would have featured in the past, so moving out to another club for game time would be ideal for the England U-21 international.

Apart from Brighton, Nottingham Forest are also interested in the versatile forward. The 22-year-old could be a great signing for such Premier League mid-table teams as he has shown that he belongs at this level with impressive performances for the Reds.

What did Harvey Elliot say about his future?

Earlier this month, Elliot opened up on his future at Liverpool. While he was very happy to secure another league title with his boyhood club, he was also uncertain about his future at Anfield.

He joined Liverpool’s youth system in 2019 from Fulham, and since then, he hasn’t looked back. He only featured in 822 minutes for the club last season, with several other players getting more minutes.

Now with new arrivals, his minutes could get reduced further if he eventually decides to stay at Anfield.

“It’s just a situation that me and the team have to have a conversation about because I’m coming into an age now where I’m 22, I’m going to be 23 next season. I don’t really want to be wasting years on my career because it’s a short career. You don’t know what’s going to happen,” Elliot told during his international duty with England U-21.

“I need to reflect. I need to see if I’m content in doing what I’m doing and how can I improve as a player, because that’s the most important thing. I just want to improve and be the best possible version of myself. If that’s to go somewhere else, then it’s a decision that I’m going to have to make, and I just need to see what happens.

“Nothing makes me want to leave. I love the club, I love the fans, the team. I support them as well. But most importantly, it’s just about what’s best for my career.”

While he has a lot of potential and is also a childhood Liverpool fan, so letting him go would be a tough call, but considering his career, they may be forced to offload him this summer.
