Portugal vs. Denmark predicted starting 11, team news, injuries: 2nd leg start for Hojlund after Ronaldo jibe?

Portugal must overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit when they welcome Denmark to Lisbon’s Estadio Jose Alvalade for the second leg of their UEFA Nations League quarterfinal.

The Selecao won the inaugural edition of the Nations League on home soil in 2019 and veteran superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has another international title in his sights.

Ronaldo might have revenge in mind after Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund came off the bench to score the only goal in Copenhagen on Thursday, before doing the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s famous “SIU!” celebration.

The Sporting News runs through the latest team news and injury updates for both sides as the match draws nearer.

Portugal head coach Roberto Martinez could stick with an unchanged line-up.

After a disappointing Euro 2024, Cristiano Ronaldo scored five goals in as many games during the Nations League group stage and Martinez will surely keep faith with him.

Bernardo Silva is the most likely rotation option, either in central midfield or on the right wing, although VitinhaJoao Neves and Pedro Neto should retain their spots.

Portugal starting lineup (4-2-3-1, right to left): Costa (GK) — Dalot, Dias, Veiga, Mendes — Vitinha, Neves — Neto, Fernandes, Leao — Ronaldo.

Injured: Cancelo (muscle), Otavio (undisclosed).
Suspended: None.

Full Portugal squad

Rasmus Hojlund made a strong case to start and after his match-winning heroics. Monaco striker Mike Biereth would be the man to make way.

That’s likely to be Denmark’s only change. Morten Hjulmand and Christian Norgaard will continue in central midfield in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s injury absence.

Denmark predicted starting lineup (3-4-3, right to left): Schmeichel (GK) — Kristensen, Andersen, Vestergaard — Isaksen, Hjulmand, Norgaard, Maehle — Lindstrom, Hojlund, Eriksen.

Injured: Christensen (ankle), Dolberg (knee), Hojbjerg (undisclosed).
Suspended: None.
