Pittsburgh Steelers predicted to draft 64-TD quarterback to compete with Will Howard

While the Pittsburgh Steelers are set at quarterback with Aaron Rodgers in 2025, the team’s future at the position remains murky.

Rodgers has already said he’s “pretty sure” he’s going to retire after this season, and with guys like Mason Rudolph, Will Howard and Skylar Thompson behind him, there’s zero certainty at the most important position for 2026 and beyond.

Knowing that, it’s fair to assume the Steelers are going to be looking at quarterbacks in the 2026 NFL draft and Bleacher Report agrees.

In the B/R NFL Scouting Department’s latest mock draft, it has the Steelers drafting Penn State signal-caller Drew Allar with the No. 19 overall pick.

Here’s what B/R said about the prediction:

The Pittsburgh Steelers think they can contend with 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers at quarterback. Maybe they will.

If they land in this specific area, they’re good enough for another one-and-done playoff run, which places them in a difficult position to secure Rodgers’ replacement.

Fortunately, next year’s QB class looks strong entering the 2025 campaign. Penn State’s Drew Allar is a prototypical quarterback who fits what the Steelers prefer.

Over three years at Penn State, Allar has completed 62.9% of his passes for 6,302 yards, he’s added 560 rushing yards and has scored 64 total touchdowns.

In 2024, Allar completed an impressive 66.5% of his passes for 3,327 yards and 24 touchdowns to eight picks. While not exactly eye-popping numbers, Allar didn’t have an ideal supporting cast around him.

Tape doesn’t lie and it shows that Allar has the kind of arm talent to make every throw on the football field. He also adds plus-athleticism to help him escape pressure and make plays with his legs.

Not only is Allar someone to watch in terms of first-round quarterbacks, he has a chance to be the first one taken, which will depend upon how he performs this season and who comes out in 2026.

All that said, it’s realistic to think Allar could end up in Pittsburgh, setting up a three-man competition with Howard and Rudolph next offseason.
