Pistons sign 6-foot-8 former Knicks forward

The Detroit Pistons have added some depth with the regular season just a couple weeks away.

On Tuesday, the Pistons signed Feron Hunt, according to Spotrac’s Keith Smith.

Hunt has limited NBA experience. He appeared for two games with the New York Knicks as a rookie in 2021-22.

Most of Hunt’s professional basketball experience has come in the G League. He also spent a season in Montenegro.

Last season, Hunt played for the Cleveland Charge in the G League. He averaged 18.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.4 blocks per game.

The 6-foot-8 forward played his college basketball at SMU.

Hunt was signed a training camp contract. The most likely path for him here is to eventually be waived, which frees him up to join Detroit’s G League team, the Motor City Cruise.

Back in his two NBA games with the Knicks in 2021-22, Hunt played a total of eight minutes. He missed the only shot he took.

In college, Hunt had back-to-back seasons averaging 11 points per game to close out his time at SMU. He averaged 7.9 rebounds per game in his last season at the NCAA level, too.

Hunt is not a great outside shooter, which limits his upside in the modern NBA. But he can score the ball and hit the glass, which should continue to prove useful at the G League level, at least, even if he doesn’t get more chances to play in the NBA.
