The Philadelphia Phillies are in second place in the National League East right now, and look poised for a season-long battle with the New York Mets. They may need to make some trades to ensure a postseason berth and run.
The Phillies’ biggest needs near the trade deadline will likely be in the outfield and the bullpen. However, On Pattison’s Anthony SanFilippo suggested they should trade for Bo Bichette and move on from Alec Bohm.
“Yes, he’s a shortstop, and Turner plays there now, but you could do either one of two things – you can plug him at short and move Turner to second, moving Stott into a bench role,” wrote SanFilippo. “Or, you keep Turner at short and ask Bichette to play third — which a lot of evaluators think he may have to do anyway when looking to sign a free agent deal after the season — and you move on from Bohm.”
Bohm was an All-Star in 2024 and is hitting .265 this year. However, his OPS is down to .679 from .779 a year ago. The team reportedly shopped him this offseason, but nothing materialized. He still has trade value, and the Phillies could flip him for an outfielder and then deploy Bichette at third base.
Bichette has never played third base, but he should be able to handle the change. If not, then Turner is an option for the. Regardless, trading Bohm for an outfielder and then adding Bichette to the infield would help the Phillies’ offense.

Bichette is a two-time All-Star and has led the American League in hits twice in his career. 2024 was a down year for him but now, in a contract year, he is hitting .277. He has found his power swing again as well, hitting seven home runs in May. Spotrac projects him to earn a seven-year, $147 million deal in free agency.
The Blue Jays may not be willing to pay that. If the Phillies like what they see from him at third base, they could be willing to pay him to be part of their infield for years to come.
