The Philadelphia Phillies just made a trade for Jesús Luzardo to help solidify their rotation. One of their All-Star players has been the center of trade rumors this offseason and they could end up dealing him.
While listing players who would not be back with the Phillies in 2025, FanSided’s Mark Powell predicted that the team would “sell high” on Alec Bohm who is coming off his first All-Star selection.
“The Phillies sound set to sell high on third baseman Alec Bohm. While I don’t particularly share their affinity for Nolan Arenado or other available corner infielders, Bohm is coming off his best season, as he had 3.0 WAR and 97 RBIs, both career highs,” wrote Powell. “If the Phillies believe Bohm has peaked, dealing him now makes the most sense, especially if they can get a replacement and more MLB-ready talent in return.”
Phillies manager Rob Thomson noted during the Major League Baseball Winter Meetings that the team is not shopping him, but that could all be part of the plan in case a deal is not reached. He hit 15 home runs and had a .280 batting average for the Phillies. However, his average dropped from .295 to .251 in the second half of the season.
Bohm could net a solid return. However, the Phillies do not have a ready replacement for third base. Dealing Bohm would have to net a big league-ready third baseman or they would have to make a play for a player like Nolan Arenado or Alex Bregman.
