The Philadelphia Phillies are set to begin a massive four-game series in Citizens Bank Park against the New York Mets. Sitting seven games up on the Mets, the Phillies will look to further extend their NL East lead, and potentially, clinch a first-round bye.
But the series against New York won’t be easy. Trea Turner injured his hamstring against the Miami Marlins and is, unsurprisingly, hitting the injured list and will miss some time. That wasn’t the only blow the Phillies suffered ahead of the Mets series, however.
According to Destiny Lugardo of Phillies Nation on Twitter/X, the Phillies are not just placing Turner on the injured list, but also losing Alec Bohm for some time as well.
Phillies Lose Turner, Bohm to the Injured List
The Mets series is a huge one for both the Phillies and the Mets, with the NL East potentially being decided on the outcome of this series. While the Phillies have home-field advantage, they will be without both Bohm and Turner for the series.

Turner has a hamstring injury, which could force him out for the rest of the season. But Bohm’s injury is a shoulder issue, and while he has a higher chance of a return, he’ll still miss at least the next 10 games.
Taking both Tuner and Bohm’s place on the active roster are Otto Kemp, who’s had 145 at-bats this season with the Phillies (hitting .228), and Donovan Walton, a 31-year-old infielder who’s hitting .270 in the minor leagues this season, and in his 190 MLB at-bats, has a .190 batting average with the Seattle Mariners and the San Francisco Giants.
Losing both Turner and Bohm on the same day stings, especially with it coming against the Mets. Turner’s loss stings the most, as the MVP candidate was having his best season in a Phillies uniform.

Not only does he lead the NL in hits with 179, but he also has the highest batting average at .305. His .815 OPS is also the best in a Phillies uniform, while his defense, for the first time since signing with the Phillies, is at an elite level.
Bohm, meanwhile, is hitting .272 on the year with nine home runs and 116 hits in 427 at-bats. He’s already missed some time this season, as he was out from the middle of July until the middle of August.
Since his return, he has only hit .243 with a .648 OPS. He’s heading back to the injured list, as the Phillies begin to explore a new-look lineup and infield after the injuries to two starting infielders at shortstop and third base.
Not only is the timing of these injuries rough, with a huge series against the Mets on tap, but also, with less than a month of the regular season to go, the Phillies won’t have much time to work them back into the lineup.
This report is a brutal one for the Phillies. After losing Zack Wheeler, the team rallied and put together a strong stretch of games. And now, they’ll have to rally once more, as two key players are hitting the injured list at a very inopportune time.
