Phillies fans flummoxed by Cal Stevenson decision that results in 2 major mistakes

Phillies fans spent much of Friday night very confused.

Philadelphia started seldom-used Cal Stevenson in centerfield, and it backfired.

Stevenson got picked off of first base, and shortly after, he spun himself around in center and failed to catch a relatively simple foul ball.

Before those moments, the Phillies were ahead.

By the end of those middle innings, Philadelphia trailed.

The timing of it all was even weirder from Phillies manager Rob Thomson.

They’re expected to get back starting centerfielder Brandon Marsh from injury on Saturday. That would mean almost certainly that Stevenson would be sent down in a corresponding roster move.

Thomson seemingly was just doing Stevenson a solid with the start on Friday despite him entering the night with a small-sample-size batting average of .167.

The decision didn’t age well.

Stevenson might not soon make it back to the big club, and Phillies fans likely won’t be too bummed out to see him go.
