The Philadelphia Phillies will be faced with a decision on Kyle Schwarber this offseason. One of the most potent forces in the Phillies’ lineup, the team can’t afford to lose him.
Since joining the Phillies in 2022, Schwarber has been a constant machine of power at the top of Philadelphia’s lineup. In four seasons with the Phillies, he’s made two All-Star teams and smashed 184 home runs. This season, he is slashing .241/.367/.559 with an NL-leading 53 home runs and 129 RBIs.
Schwarber should have a strong market in free agency
Despite being 32-years-old, Schwarber has shown no signs of slowing down, and should command a lucrative deal in free agency. Sports Illustrated’s Zach Pressnell notes that Schwarber should be at the top of the Phillies’ priority list in free agency.
“The slugger is the heart of the Phillies. Re-signing him to a new deal is going to be priority No. 1 this winter,” Pressnell said. “It might be expensive, especially for a designated hitter, but it’s a move the Phillies need to make. They can’t afford to lose their star.”
Schwarber’s performance this season has helped catapult the Phillies to a 92-64 record, and another NL East division crown. As of now, the Phillies are one of the favorites to win the World Series. Phillies fans will hope that this year’s playoffs aren’t the final times they’ll see Schwarber donning their uniform as they look to compete this year and beyond.
