The Philadelphia Phillies had an interesting offseason. They were looking to trade third baseman Alec Bohm, but could not find a suitor for the veteran slugger.
The 28-year-old remains in Philadelphia for 2025 and is looking to bounce back after a rough ending to the 2024 season. Philadelphia lost the National League Division Series to the New York Mets, and Bohm was benched in that series in the midst of his struggles.
Bohm discussed the playoff benching recently and how he took it.
“So now what? Like, now, what can you do?” he said. “I feel like it’s more of a freeing thing now than anything, right? Now I’ve been through that too. I’m still here. Still standing. It’s just all good, bad, indifferent. All those things are going to make you better. You can take it the wrong way and you can be worse off for it. But doing hard things only makes you a better person. So, I think dealing with all the hard s— only makes all the good stuff feel even better, you know?”
While Bohm was obviously hurt by the playoff benching, he ultimately appears to have taken the high road rather than sulk about it.

Instead of letting it get to him and having a bad attitude, Bohm took it as an opportunity to learn and grow, as well as make adjustments to ensure that this does not happen again.
The 28-year-old slugger was an All-Star for the first time last year, posting a 3.0 WAR and slashing .280/.332/.448 with 15 home runs, 97 RBI and a .779 OPS. But he injured his hand late in the year, which led to the decline in production.
If Bohm can stay healthy, the Phillies should be in good shape for 2025 as they try to bounce back from their loss in the NLDS to the Mets. Bohm also should be able to bounce back from his own struggles if he can stay off the injured list.
We’ll see what 2025 brings for the All-Star third baseman.
