The Philadelphia Phillies have been relatively quiet this offseason. Their biggest move was the trade with the Miami Marlins that brought them left-hander Jesus Luzardo.
Aside from that move, Philadelphia hasn’t done much, but they still are one of the top teams in Major League Baseball and should be a World Series contender.
Third baseman Alec Bohm has been at the center of trade rumors for much of the offseason. The Phillies have been unable to find a trade partner, but that doesn’t mean they won’t find one eventually.
Jeff Carr of Sports Illustrated proposed the idea of Bohm being traded to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for outfielder Spencer Steer and left-hander Nick Lodolo.
“Bohm is coming off the best year of his career. He slashed .280/.332/.448, finishing with 15 home runs and 97 RBI in 2024. He really took a step forward with the glove, improving his Defensive Runs Saved at third base by 10,” Carr wrote.
The Reds need a big bat, and Bohm could be the answer as they try to boost their offense. As for the Phillies, they would be receiving two solid young players that could still help them win now.
Steer can play multiple positions and Lodolo could be a top-of-the-rotation arm if he can remain healthy. This trade might also open the door for a marquee addition at third base.
Alex Bregman is still available, and Nolan Arenado had Philadelphia on his list of teams he would waive his no-trade clause for.
It will be interesting to see if the Phillies can find a trade partner for Bohm and bring back some solid talent in exchange.
