Philadelphia Eagles have big plans for star cornerback to shut down top NFL wide receivers

Vic Fangio and the Philadelphia Eagles defense is one of the elite units in the NFL, and the team’s defensive coordinator is ready to fully unleash one of his stars during the 2025 season.

The Eagles have been on a heater drafting top talent on both sides of the ball, but general manager Howie Roseman has been especially good on the defensive end where he’s targeted top talents like Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis and Cooper Dejean.

However, last year’s first-round selection, Quinyon Mitchell, might end up being the best of them all and Fangio is ready to turn him into one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL by allowing him to cover the league’s elite wide receivers on every single play.

While the Birds are only a few days into training camp, Fangio revealed Thursday that Mitchell could “potentially travel with wide receivers” and that opens up the possibility of him covering stars like CeeDee Lamb, Terry McLaurin, Puka Nacua and more on every single play.

During his debut season, Mitchell was elite and only allowed 42 receptions over the course of the entire Super Bowl-winning campaign.

Meanwhile, Mitchell held a number of top wideouts to under 35 yards during the games he faced them, including Ja’Marr Chase, Lamb, Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr.

While Philly already boasts an insanely good pass rush, Fangio’s defense has an even greater upside if they can lock down opposing number one receivers.
