They don’t keep historical stats on eagles made from off of the green without a putter.
If they did, Philip Knowles may have just set a new PGA Tour record.
On Friday at the Rocket Classic in Detroit, Knowles stood over three separate 3rd-shots on par-5s, none of them on the green.
And on those three occasions, Knowles found the bottom of the cup each time.
That’s pretty much impossible.
Knowles added a birdie on another par-5 to go 7-under Friday’s par-5s, which helped him to an 8-under round and a 14-under clubhouse lead.
The former North Florida college golfer has a pretty cool story, too.
“I graduated in 2022 from the Korn Ferry (Tour),” Knowles told reporters Friday. “We’re here in 2025 and I’m still playing out my rookie year starts. I’ve been on a medical. I got hurt that year early at Pebble. Freak accident, taking out the recycling, severed a nerve in my thumb. In 2024, when I started to come back, I was on my way to Mexico for my first start on my medical and I broke out in Shingles in my right eye. That persisted. I got meds, it came back, I got on the meds, it came back. That happened four times over the next six months.
“Mixed in there as well, I got a really bad case of mono at one point. It seemed like my immune system was going through some struggles. We still don’t know that we have the answer, and I still don’t feel 100 percent, but life goes on. I’ve got two little girls. I’ve got a wife who needs me to help. It’s not like I can spend my days like, woe is me.”
Now that is a guy who absolutely deserves to win a golf tournament.
