Former NFL stars Peyton Manning and Tom Brady were among many around the sports world expressing their sadness over hearing that Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay had died. Irsay, 65, died on Wednesday, May 21.
In an Instagram post on his official account on Wednesday, Manning not only shared some tender words but a throwback photo of him and Irsay. Manning was a star quarterback with the Colts for many years.
In the post, Manning wrote, in part, “I am heartbroken to hear about Jim Irsay’s passing. He was an incredibly generous and passionate owner and I will always be indebted to him for giving me my start in the NFL.”
Brady added his own comment on Manning’s post, simply writing, “❤️🙏🏻 RIP❤️🙏🏻”. Penske Entertainment also shared a comment, released on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s official X account on Wednesday evening. It said, in part, “Jim Irsay was an incredibly kind, brilliant and dedicated leader whose generosity and appreciation for Central Indiana and our entire state made a massive and irreplacable impact on so many lives.”
New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft offered his condolences in an official post on the Patriots’ X account on Wednesday. Colts fans probably also will want to hear what former Pat McAfee, who now hosts his own talk show on ESPN, will have to say when he comments.
The sports world is honoring Irsay’s passing with tender words. Celebrities who also follow sports and the NFL will be sharing their own memories in the hours ahead.
