The Pittsburgh Penguins picked up a solid, veteran defenseman on Thursday.
They traded with the Dallas Stars to acquire Matt Dumba. According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, Pittsburgh sent Vladislav Kolyachonok to the Stars. The Penguins also got a 2028 second-round pick in the deal.
It’s safe to speculate that the Penguins aren’t done, though.
They now have four veteran right-side defenseman, according to beat reporter Kelsey Surmacz. Dumba joins Erik Karlsson, Kris Letang and Connor Clifton.
“They also have a boatload of bottom-pair left-siders,” writes Surmacz. “Something’s gotta give.”

Karlsson was involved in some trade speculation earlier in the offseason. Maybe he’s the guy to go.
Dumba is a fun pickup for the Penguins, at least.
Turning 31 on July 25, Dumba was the seventh overall pick in 2012 by the Wild.
He has played for Minnesota, Arizona, Tampa Bay and Dallas.
In 737 NHL games, Dumba has 84 goals and 174 assists along with 867 shot blocks and 1,088 hits.
In 63 games with Dallas this season, he had a goal and nine assists.
And now that Dumba is in Pittsburgh, there may be more moves to come. Stay tuned.
