Perhaps the hockey world was too quick to jump to the conclusion that Sidney Crosby’s time with the Pittsburgh Penguins might soon be coming to an end.
It was understandable after he openly spoke about the topic, along with comments from his agent, Pat Brisson, stating that a trade one day is a possibility. Nobody in his inner circle had ever even considered the idea when asked about it in years prior.
Because of that, many had already started penciling Crosby in on the Colorado Avalanche or Montreal Canadiens in pursuit of a fourth Stanley Cup.
However, Monday’s comments from the captain himself have put the rumors and speculation to a halt, for now at least. Here was what Crosby had to say when speaking after handing out season tickets to fans in person. 93.7 The Fan shared the clip on X (formerly Twitter).
“There’s a lot of narratives out there, and I don’t think a lot of those have come from me. So, you know, this is where I want to be. I love it here. I can’t keep having to answer the same question over again because of these narratives. If people want to write about that or say that, that’s fine, but I can’t really control that. Obviously, when you lose and when there’s certain things that happen, it’s normal for that stuff to come up. But that’s how I feel,” Crosby said.

The 38-year-old is about to begin the first season of the two-year, $17.4 million contract extension he signed with the Penguins in September of 2024.
Pittsburgh means everything to Crosby
After reiterating his desire to stay in Pittsburgh, Sidney Crosby went on to discuss just how much it means to play in the city and for the Penguins.
Pens Inside Scoop posted his comments on X.
“I’m so grateful and thankful that I’ve had the opportunity to play here as long as I have. I think anyone who knows me knows what the city means to me, how special it is, and that I don’t take those rumors or some of those things lightly. Yeah, like I said, this is where I want to be. It’s a special place, and it’s something that is hard to put all in a soundbite, but it means a lot,” Crosby said.

Very strong comments from the man who’s spent his entire 20-year career with the franchise thus far, looking to follow in the footsteps of his idol, Mario Lemieux.
It will certainly put the trade talk to bed to begin the 2025-26 season; however, we all know that if the Penguins are struggling and selling off again at the deadline, then this story will once again start picking up steam.
