Penguins legend Sidney Crosby passes Wayne Gretzky in impressive NHL record

Anytime you pass one of Wayne Gretzky’s career stats, it’s a good night.

That’s what Pittsburgh Penguins great Sidney Crosby did on Tuesday.

Crosby poked a shot from the right slot past the goalie and into the net for a first-period goal and the 1,670th point of his career.

With that point, Crosby passed Gretzky for most points all-time with a single franchise.

Crosby, of course, has been with Pittsburgh his entire 20-year NHL career after being taken first overall in 2005.

Gretzky, as you know, went on to have quite the second chapter with the Los Angeles Kings and New York Rangers after 1,669 points with the Edmonton Oilers.

Crosby actually doesn’t yet hold the Pittsburgh record in this stat. Super Mario Lemieux had 1,723 points with the Penguins.

Two Detroit legends hold the lead on this list. Steve Yzerman is second at 1,755 points, and Gordie Howe put up 1,809 to tope the single-franchise record board.
