The Pittsburgh Penguins have traded forward Chase Stillman and a 2027 fourth-round pick to the Vancouver Canucks for goaltender Arturs Silovs, the team’s official X account announced.
Silovs, a 24-year-old originally from Latvia, was drafted in the 6th round of the 2019 Draft by the Canucks. He has played sparingly over his three NHL seasons, appearing in five, four, and ten games respectively since 2022-23. Over that time, he has a 3.13 goals allowed on average and an .880 save percentage.
While Silovs has not yet solidified himself as a full-time NHL netminder, he had an impressive campaign with the AHL Abbotsford Canucks, going 14-5-1 over 21 regular season starts with a 2.41 GAA and a .908 save percentage.
In the postseason, Silovs guided Abbotsford to the Calder Cup, going 16-7 with an incredible 2.01 GAA and a .931 save percentage.
He joins Tristan Jarry in the goaltender room and figures to compete for legitimate No. 2 minutes. Silovs is also a restricted free agent after this season, and Pittsburgh should get the most out of a player searching for a longer-term contract.
Jarry is set to make $5.375 million through 2027-28 and could become a more expendable piece in this rebuild should Silovs emerge as something more than a backup.
Onto Stillman, who was a first-round pick of the New Jersey Devils in the 2021 Draft, but has not yet made his NHL debut. He had a productive rookie year with the AHL Utica Comets, netting 14 goals and 24 points over 54 games. But, since then, he has played in just 65 games with 4 goals and 12 points.
