The New Orleans Pelicans shook up their roster on Monday.
Two players on the fringes have been cut.
Those two guys: Jalen McDaniels and Garrison Brooks.
McDaniels is the older brother of Minnesota Timberwolves star Jaden McDaniels.
This McDaniels has played three-plus seasons at the NBA level for the Charlotte Hornets. He has also seen NBA minutes for the 76ers, Raptors and Wizards.
McDaniels has career NBA regular season averages of 6.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.
That’s the more proven commodity here, if you can call it that.
Brooks was an undrafted player out of Mississippi State in 2022.
In his first pro season, he played in the G League for the Westchester Knicks. Since then, he has gone overseas to play in Korea and Lithuania.
The cutting of McDaniels and Brooks is essentially a procedural move to get them to the G League.
Now that they’ve been sent on their way, the pair can essentially stick around with the Pelicans’ G League squad, the Birmingham Squadron.
It could always benefit New Orleans to have borderline talent in the next man up category
The Pelicans would rather play one of the greats, hits.
